You are needed!

Tutors and students are the life-blood of SeniorNet— one cannot exist without the other!

Many tutors start their SeniorNet experience as students, and through their interest in extending their knowledge base, and a wish to help others who are starting out on their “journey”, volunteer their time to help tutoring others.

We are always on the lookout for people who have the qualities necessary to become an effective tutor with enthusiasm for learning, good “people” skills, and patience! Age is not important, a friendly and helpful way is and a sense of humour too.

When approached with the suggestion that they MIGHT be interested in tutoring, the first reaction is usually “Good Heavens, no – I don’t know enough”.

we-need-youBut you do, if you think about it. If you have mastered the key skills at the Beginners’ level, you DO have enough knowledge to (at least) be an assistant tutor, which is where we ALL start!

Becoming an assistant gives you a chance to consolidate what you have learned, as you help others practice skills. You DO really learn on the job!

It is even better than actually being a student, because you go over and over skills, while other tutors, with whom you will work, give you continual support and encouragement.

As well as tutors for the more basic skills, we are always in need of those with more specialised talents. If you are proficient in the use of a computer (this still does not necessarily mean “expert”!) and have a passion for eg. photography, music or apps such as Skype or Trade Me etc.
SeniorNet Kapiti NEEDS YOUR HELP!!!

Classes are normally limited to 7 students and there are (as often as possible) at least 3 tutors for this size of group. At the Introductory level, we try to have one-to-one.

Your commitment requires 2 1/2 hours a week, for between 3 and 5 weeks.

We’d love you to give us a bit of your time to help others, leave our Tutor Coordinator a message on our answerphone (04 299 0754) or drop us an email to kapiti@seniornet.nz. Alternatively please fill in the form below and we’ll get in touch with you. We look forward to hearing from you!
