November’s Patch Tuesday will be Big!

It’s just been announced that this coming week’s Microsoft Updates are going to be one of their biggest ever! The 16 Updates will affect Windows (all current versions), Internet Explorer (all versions) and MS Office. Five of the 16 are tagged as “Critical” and nine are “Important”, the two top levels on Microsoft’s 4-Step Scale.

G’bye Windows ~ Hello Mac OS!

Concluding the truthful tale of a father (he, his and him) and son’s (I, me and mine) potential computing reconciliation after a dozen years’ difference of opinion including a decade-long back-story featuring epic arguments, heated disagreements, occasional truce, rare admissions, and 11th hour, last-minute cold-feet – where any and all personal detail shall remain permanently private. A mix of fact and indeed personal opinion (mine). Seniors and tech choices, decisions, decisions…

It is a bit of a surprise that quite so many Seniors have decided to invest in tablets for their communication needs as the attendance at our iPad and Android workshops shows.

senior-woman-confused-by-tablet-computerMaybe it should not have come as that much of a surprise considering the popularity generally of the small computers and that includes also laptops/notebooks or indeed devices we can classify as portable computers.

You might rightly argue that smartphones and phablets are getting awfully close to the same classification since they are more computers than phones.

But what are all these devices and how can you choose?

From Hotmail to Outlook

Hotmail logoOne of the popular email providers is Hotmail, and in preparation for Windows 8 Microsoft has decided to do a bit of renovation of their Hotmail net based mail programme and make some address changes.

The new design will seem quite familiar if you use Outlook for your e-mail and will make Hotmail seem cleaner and of course will have built-in access to social networks like Facebook, Google, Twitter and the business oriented LinkedIn.
