Windows 10 is Evolving – Please Keep Up!

Windows 10 is, by design, an evolving Operating System. According to Microsoft, there will never be a Windows 11, just a continuously changing Windows 10.

In reality, what does this mean for you, as a humble PC/Laptop user? Well, the most obvious thing is that you will see small incremental changes occurring as the regular updates are applied. In fact, Microsoft have stated that they will update Windows 10 every 6 months and while there have been a couple of hiccups along the way, they have generally remained on their own self-imposed schedule in recent years. March and September are the “big” months to watch out for.

The current version of Windows 10 (at the time of writing in April 2019) is “1809”. The version designation is simply the year (YY) and month (MM) when the update was initially released. Those of you who are quick with the maths, will already be asking “then where’s v1903?” and you are right to pose the question. Sadly, I don’t know the answer right now but what I do know if that it won’t be far away!

It is important that you keep up to date with these ongoing updates. Continue reading

2 Years of Windows 10

Windows-update iconIt won’t be long now before we see the latest update to Windows 10, the Autumn version, also known as 1709.

That will then be the fourth update in just over the 2 years that Windows 10 has been around, and you can expect future updates at roughly the same rate in the past.

This new update when released can be expected to have loads of changes both for the users and the developers.

Fluent designSo, what can we look forward to? The crystal ball points to elements of Microsoft’s new ‘Fluent Design’ being added, which should add performance and user improvements, including easier resizing for the varying devices on which you use Windows 10 as your operating system, i.e. whether you use a desktop, laptop, tablet or smartphone, and smoother transitions.

Are you up to date with Windows 10?

Win 10 BackgroundQuite a few things have happened with Windows 10 Operating System since you upgraded to 10 from whichever version you previously had on your computer, or you may have bought a new PC or laptop with Windows 10 already installed. Either way you may like to check if you are indeed up-to-date with the latest version.

The reason for doing that is partly for security and partly to get any new function in updates working for you and partly to correct any bugs in the previous iteration.

I do hope that you are using Windows 10 and upgraded when Microsoft two years ago offered to do that for you,

W10 Anniversary UpdateMicrosoft has run into a new serious problem with its Anniversary update of the Windows 10 operating system which hit the world stage over the past few weeks.
