87 Million Problems

ZuckerbergThe latest admission from Facebook that up to 87million Facebook users may have had their information “improperly shared” with Cambridge Analytica is a sharp increase on the 50 million estimate that had previously been touted.

In Australia the Australian Privacy Commissioner has launched a formal investigation into the improper sharing of the data of Aussie Facebook users that could lead to a hefty fine and new regulations, if the Aussie commissioner decides it is just not cricket.

Facebook, love it or hate it

Facebook Back in March Facebook said that about 1.65 billion people used the site every month, not bad when you consider that the total number of people using the internet globally is around 3.17 billion.

With such an audience Facebook plans to collect information about all internet users through their ‘Like’ buttons and other pieces of code present on web pages across the internet. That will enable them to target ads to not just Facebook users but also to non-Facebook users.

Expectations of our Internet future

InternetThe Internet is indeed an important invention, and the effect it has had on our lives since it first saw daylight has been immense. Because it has become really important to users it is also reasonable to assume that it will face many challenges in the years ahead. What can we reasonably expect to happen to the Internet and are there some consensus out there as to the direction it will take? Well, no actually, there are as many opinions as there are disagreements so here is what I thought of both good and bad in the next decade.
