Anything for a quiet life?
Today’s technology thinks otherwise and a much beloved word that has come to the fore is “Disruption” to explain what is happening, the change from incremental improvements to radical changes which can and do disrupt established ways, be it in products or markets or in our way of life.
We have lately been reading a lot of headlines shouting ‘Disruption’, so what is it about.
The definition of disruption comes in several guises and definitions, for example ‘Forcible separation or division into parts’, ‘To throw into confusion or disorder’, ’An innovation that creates a new market and value network and eventually disrupts and replaces established market and network’, and on another tack you’ll find ‘Cell disruption’ a method in cell biology for releasing biological molecules from inside a cell.
Well, we are not going there, but
It is not that technology has changed our lives, we can all agree on that, but more it is the speed with which our lives have been disrupted by the incessant and relentless changes that technology and innovation has brought about.
Time to get used to almost constant digital disruption is in short supply, and for an ageing population having to accommodate so many new ways and indeed many new demands on our brains and time will leave a proportion opting out, many more struggling with the new – mostly technology driven – changes, and others like members of SeniorNet bravely tackling the learning process and breaking down the barriers.
