Newsletter April 2021

From the Chair

Term 1 is fast drawing to a close and I must say, it’s been a busy one at SeniorNet Kapiti. Most of our classes and workshops have been full or close to it and for me that’s a sign of a healthy organisation. It’s obvious members are still seeking out our training and assistance and of course that’s what SeniorNet is all about. Thank you for your continued support.

By now, most members will have received their annual membership renewal. To those who have already renewed, we appreciate your quick payment. If you haven’t done so, remember there’s a $5 discount if you pay by the end of April. If you are an AMI Insurance customer and you’ve already advised us, you won’t have received a renewal notice. AMI is paying your membership for 2021-22 and we’ve already flagged you as “paid”!

Newsletter March 2021

From the Chair

As I sit down to write to you, my hands are still shaking after watching another “come from behind” win by Team New Zealand in the Americas Cup. Whether you’re passionately following the racing or just watching it out the corner of your eye, you won’t be able to miss the astounding technology being used by the broadcast organisation. How they manage to map the course onto the moving pictures shot from moving helicopters and boats as well as merge all that technical information from multiple boats onto the screen I’ll never quite comprehend. We certainly couldn’t have managed anything like it in my working days – technology have come a long way in a very short time!

Newsletter February 2021

From the Chair

It’s only been a couple of weeks since I last wrote to you from the Chair but a lot has happened at SeniorNet Kapiti since then…

Our Open Days were a huge success with plenty of interest from passers by at Coastlands and a steady stream of new members visiting the Learning Centre on the Saturday. Our thanks go to Westpac, one of our national sponsors, for allowing us to sit outside their premises all day – it’s a great people-watching spot as well as an excellent location to draw people’s attention to all the ways SeniorNet might help them on their digital learning journey.

My thanks also to the Committee Members and Tutors who sat on the desk at Coastlands fielding all sorts of questions and queries about SeniorNet as well as signing people up to join. The good news for us is that our classes are filling fast for Term 1 but the bad news for you is that if you want to attend a Course or Workshop, you need to contact Elaine soon to avoid missing out.

Newsletter January 2021

From the Chair

2021 is already here and the first month is done and dusted! I hope everyone has had a chance to catch up with at least some family in New Zealand and maybe even a few visitors who’ve braved MIQ and come home for a few months over the summer.

At SeniorNet, we’ve been busy over the break getting ready for the new Term which starts in less than a week’s time. All our PCs are up to date, our first Committee meeting is over and our Open Days all planned for this week.

There are a couple of buttons below that you can click to see our upcoming courses and workshops. Why not check them out and see if there’s something we can help you with in 2021 on the technology front.

Newsletter December 2020

From the Chair

Well folks, that’s a wrap for 2020!

As year’s go, I think I’ll give it just one star!

At SeniorNet Kapiti though, we’ve weathered the storm and come out the other side as a stronger organisation than when we started. Along the way we’ve discovered the power and reach of online learning, firstly during Lockdown and more recently through our participation in the Senior Hangouts Pilot run by The Federation. I think there’s a lot more to come from this technology now we’re all better acquainted with it.
