A trip down M Lane

I remember IIIt really is nearly 30 years since Tim Berners-Lee gave the World the beginnings of the World Wide Web that has changed the way we live, do business, work and entertain, just about everything in the way it has impacted society.

In New Zealand back in 1961 the first computer was installed at Treasury [an IBM] but it took 20 years to 1981 before IBM gave us the PC and Bill Gates gave us the MS-DOS that was the first operating platform for the Personal Computer.

You may even remember the Commodore 64, the cheaper computer everyone loved and 1/3rd of the cost of an Apple II and an IBM PC, it might even have been

Moving, moving …into a new way of life

Listening to the latest news from the get-together at the APEC meeting in Vietnam one of the strong comments from our new Prime Minister was the need for more action regarding Climate Change.

This most likely move will mean more effort towards curbing fossil fuelled transport and supporting the wider introduction of electric and maybe hydrogen fuelled cars. As you know already there are both hybrid and battery driven vehicles available in New Zealand,  albeit at rather high prices, but more are coming and maybe at more accessible prices.

In a post-Industrial World

TofflerBack in the 1990s I read Alvin Toffler, an American Author and futurist, and was quite taken by his view of the world and his description of his vision of the post-industrial society, as he named it. He had actually been writing since the ‘70s, but hadn’t really registered on my radar before I got involved in the whole personal technology revolution as opposed to the Corporate computer processing that was the norm in the ‘80s.

With hindsight, the post-industrial society we might today call the technological society, since it paved the way for rapid changes and introduction of more and more technology to do the drudge work, at least at first.
