From the Chair
We’ve started Term 3 with a hiss and a roar! Most classes are full or close to it which is always pleasing to the Committee and all our Tutors. It’s great for us to see that our members are finding something in our programme that they can learn and it’s our pleasure to be able to offer the number of classes and workshops that we do.
SeniorNet Kapiti was entered into the Wellington Airport Community Awards, and proudly came away with a Highly Commended award for Education & Child/Youth Development – this is due to the excellent work by our team of volunteers (Committee & Tutors). The nomination described how our Learning Centre moved to online courses and workshops during lockdown to ensure we could engage with our members, and how we now continue that engagement at the Learning Centre.

The certificate is hanging on the Learning Centre wall

Vaccine Information

Our website already contains a lot of COVID-19 Pandemic information on this page.
We encourage members seeking accurate information to make use of the links on our pages
In addition, at the bottom of the page, we have recently added some new links around Vaccination. The url’s and phone numbers given in the newspaper (or TV & Radio) are fine but after the paper’s been used to start the fire, this page is the quickest place to find the following information
- To book a vaccination go to the Book My Vaccine website
- To change a vaccination booking go to the Book My Vaccine website
- Request a Proof of Vaccine letter from Ministry of Health for travel
- NZ Government COVID-19 Vaccination site
- NZ Ministry of Health: How the Vaccine Works site
- Stuff “Whole Truth about Vaccines” Series
We hope you find these quick links helpful – we try to keep them as up to date as possible for your convenience

Another way of looking at things!

For a long time now, the Committee has been using a visual-style calendar for planning purposes. They find it so useful, it’s been decided to add this version of our upcoming courses and workshops to the website for everyone to use.
Hopefully you’ll find it as useful as we do! Just click on the image above to have a closer look for yourself and next time you visit our website, you’ll see this image on the right-hand side above the normal Course and Workshop images.
Unique Offer – We’re selling one of our iPads
We were selling our iPad Air 2 (9.7″ space grey), 16Gb memory, wifi, complete with a genuine Apple case. It’s running the latest iPad OS 14.7 and can be updated to iPad OS 15 when it’s released later this year. Charger included – Item has been sold

The iPad is about 4 years old and has only ever been used as a demonstration device at courses and workshops. It is in unmarked condition and will be a wonderful way to find out about this amazing technology.
Congratulations to the lucky purchaser who gets full setup and a free iPad and iPhone Basics course (in Term 4).

SeniorHangouts is Still Running

SeniorHangouts, the online learning platform run by SeniorNet, is still operating. All current members of SeniorNet in New Zealand are welcome to participate and you don’t even need Zoom to join.
Go to the SeniorHangouts website, join up (it’s free) and see what sessions are coming up. You can also watch previously held sessions on a wide variety of topics that may interest you
Do we have a Carpet Layer out there?
It seems that every carpet layer on the Kapiti Coast is otherwise engaged right now. Barry is looking for someone to replace the long strip of metal carpet edging in the Learning Centre. If you’re a retired carpet layer and still have access to the necessary tools (you’ll probably need a carpet stretcher) we’d love to hear from you. Please leave a message at the office on (04) 299 0754 and Barry will call you back.
Please Support our Sponsors
Please don’t forget to support our National sponsors – they’re important to SeniorNet and help us at the local level in many ways, including offering discounts to our members.
Always show your membership card and ask if there’s a discount for SeniorNet members – you might be rather surprised!
The best example is Noel Leeming where the SeniorNet discount extends well beyond computers to everything in their store but please be insistent that they scan your barcode before they give you a price!
Suzuki has recently reconfirmed their offer to our members of free on-road costs on new vehicles so it always pays to ask.
There are more details about the individual sponsorships on the Federation’s website here
