Additional Workshop – Things you never knew you could do with Google

We are pleased to announce another new workshop to be run by Ian Bonallack.

Tuesday 8 November at 9:30 am; no need to book, just turn up – $5 fee.

You’re quite likely already using Google to look things up, and you’ve probably been using it for years.

google-pandaBut whether you’re new at it or you’re already quite adept, you’re guaranteed to get some surprises on this workshop!

Apart from showing you even better ways to use Google, we’ll be showing you some great tricks that you can use with Google. Some will be fun, some you’ll find extremely useful, and some will be both!

See you there… Tuesday 8 November at 9:30 am

Course Fee Change

At the recent October Committee Meeting it was decided to eliminate the fee for the Introduction to Computing Course. People attending this course are often new members and are also paying their Annual Subscription so the Committee decided to return to our traditional practice of offering this as a free course. Fees for all other courses remain unchanged. Please feel free to pass this information on to any friends you may have who are considering joining SeniorNet Kapiti.

Course Bookings

Very Old PhoneTo enrol in your chosen course, please call Teresa at (04) 298 3132.

Enrol today for one of our classes or click to see our Course Timetable on our website. Remember also that we have reduced charges for any member wishing to repeat a course. Click here to see all our course costs on our website.

Workshops

The charge for our regular Workshops is $5.00 per session. Remember that we run Q&A, iPad and Android tablet/phones Workshops each month and no prior booking is required. Click to see our Workshop and Special Interest Group (SIG) Timetable. If you’ve already completed a Course and need some additional help to clarify a few points we are, as always, delighted to help at one of our regular How Do I…? Workshops where the charge varies depending on how long we spend helping you.

Course attendance and payments

Thank you to the course attendees who have assisted in helping to streamline making payments. As a reminder, to make the whole process more efficient, it would be very much appreciated if you could pay for your course when you make your booking. That way we can complete the necessary paperwork without holding everyone up on the first day of your course. Internet Banking is ideal for doing this and if you’re still nervous about paying for things online, why not consider attending our Introduction to Internet Banking Course next term.

If you’re paying for a course online, please enter “Course” in the Code field and an abbreviated course name in the Reference field. Eg Man Data, Photo, Win 10, Beginners, iPad, Android etc. Remember you only have 12 characters per field. We would prefer that you enter your (initial and) surname in the Particulars field.

Tutors and Assistant Tutors Wanted

space-barWe always need tutors and assistant tutors so please contact Kuini at kuini.woolcock@gmail.com and she will discuss the options with you. Join our friendly and supportive group and bring your ideas forward for discussion. After every meeting members are heard to say… I wish I’d known that… it’s easy when you know how… I need to do the course.  Experienced senior/lead tutors are there to train you to become an assistant tutor and this is also a great opportunity to keep up with all the latest advances in the computer world. Tutors also need to keep themselves updated, so enrol in a course or go along as an assistant tutor.

Our Website – Staying Connected!

A lot of time and effort goes into managing the SeniorNet Kapiti website so that our members can keep up to date with what’s happening in and around The Learning Centre. We also use the website to inform our members about trends and happenings in Information Technology through regular articles written by Thor, Bunkshyde, Scangen and others (all members of SeniorNet). If you want to be informed when new articles appear, you need to go to the website and click on the + Follow Me button which appears at the bottom right-hand side of your browser. Enter your email address and click Sign me up. After that you’ll get a short email from “Wordpress” when new material is posted. Your email address is kept in the strictest confidence and never shared with anyone else.

NEVER use an Electronic Translator!

laptop-batteryOne of our members purchased a new battery for his wife’s laptop the other day and he wanted to share the “English” instructions which came with the battery…..

If anyone can actually make sense of this, please contact Kuini – we need Tutors!

As an aside, laptop batteries should be replaced when they no longer hold their charge for more than 15-30 minutes. There are plenty available on TradeMe for around $40 (Buy Now) and it will give your laptop a new lease of (untethered) life.
