Beginners Course – Charge
As most of our members will be very aware, the Government has discontinued the Learner Subsidy from SeniorNets throughout the country and this is placing significant strain on running costs and course fees. At this stage, we are holding our Course Fees steady at 2015-16 levels with only one exception.
In order to ensure that course fees are fairly spread, the Committee has decided that, starting in Term 3 2016, our Introduction to Computing Course (aka “Beginners”) will incur a charge of $25. This charge is partly offset by the fact that we no longer charge attendees for their copy of WinTutor (it was $10). Significant work is also being done on the content of this course and it has been extended to 4 weeks to deliver an even better Introduction to those new to computing. We are confident that this new charge still represents excellent value for money to our newer members.
Workshops
Remember that we also have our usual workshops running each month and no prior booking is required: How Do I…?, Q&A, iPad and Android tablet/phones. Click to see our Workshop Timetable on our website. If you have already completed a course and need some additional help to clarify a few points we are, as always, delighted to help.
Windows 10 Upgrade – An Upgrade to our Advice!
Time is a-ticking and after 29 July 2016, you will have to pay real money to upgrade your PC to Windows 10. If you haven’t already taken the plunge and upgraded, we STRONGLY recommend that you do so as soon as possible, well ahead of the deadline. Almost all upgrades we are aware of have been successful and we haven’t yet encountered anyone who wasn’t happy with the end result. Windows 10 is more stable, more reliable and easier to use than any of its predecessors. Please click on the name of our article “The Waiting is Over – It’s Time to Upgrade” and give the upgrade a go. If you don’t try, you’ll never know what you’ve missed and this is one free lunch which has an expiry date on it!
The key issue for SeniorNet is that we’ve already upgraded our Tutor laptops, learning PCs and all our Courses to run on Windows 10 and we don’t want our members to fall behind or feel left out so please read our article and give the upgrade a try.
In support of our members who have upgraded, we have even scheduled one more session of our extremely popular 2 week course called Introduction to Windows 10 – it’s now running 4 times this term.
